Monique Olivier graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Music in voice performance under the direction of Dr. George Evelyn in 2005. She has been fortunate to sing with a number of exceptional choirs including Juno Nominated Luminous Voices, The Canadian Chamber Choir, Spiritus Chamber Choir and the Canadian National Youth Choir. Ms. Olivier is happiest when singing with a choir and strives to instill that passion for music in her students.
Ms. Olivier believes that everyone has the ability to be a great singer, regardless of previous experience. She has directed the Choral Music program at William Aberhart High School since 2010 where she strives to instill a lifelong passion for music in her students. The choirs perform a variety of repertoire and participate in local festivals such as Alberta ChoralFest, CBE Sings, Calgary Performing Arts Festival and ChoralFest Jazz, where they consistently receive "superior" ratings. Aberhart Choirs are frequently recommended to represent Calgary at the provincial level, and have placed first on three occasions since 2011. They have also had the incredible opportunity to advance to the National Festival three times and were awarded first place in 2013.
Ms. Olivier believes that music education is a vital component of public education. She has served on the board of directors for both CADME (Calgary Association for the Development of Music Education) and Choir Alberta and was recently recognized by the Alberta Music Advocacy Alliance for her “commitment to outstanding achievement and continued commitment to music excellence in music education.”
When Ms. Olivier isn’t teaching or performing, she is likely spending time with her three kids and two cats. She enjoys travelling, skiing, playing board games and spending time in Windermere, B.C. with her family.
